What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a creative and social event where students come together, share ideas and build cool software & hardware hacks during 48 hours. You learn immensely, interact with startups & companies and get to meet like-minded people from around the world. Don’t worry - it’s very beginner friendly!
What is UniHack?
UniHack is an international hackathon for students, with a focus on solving civic problems. This year will be the 6th edition and will take place between 7-10 November 2024.
Where is it?
UniHack will take place at Centrul Regional de Afaceri Timișoara - CRAFT, Timișoara, România.
Who can participate?
Any high school or University student is eligible to attend, regardless of age.
Do I need to be physically at the location to participate?
Yes, you will get the most out of the event if you are at the location. You will be together with like-minded people, you will receive guidance from mentors, and make an impression on the judges as well.
What should I bring?
Make sure to take a valid student ID with you. Also, you will definitely need your laptop, phone, chargers and any hardware you need for your project. You can also bring your monitor if you want!
Can you help me get a visa?
Yes, for this edition we can provide invitation letters for participants requiring a visa. You could also request one via email before the registration process.
What is happening on the 7th of November?
You can get a chance to network with our partners, search for a teammate if you don't have one, and get a project idea with an opportunity for idea follow-up.
In addition to the hackathon, you can also attend the UniHack Conference on Thursday, 2024 November 7th.
Is it free?
Yes, there is no participation fee.
What about sleeping?
We'll have designated sleeping/quiet areas if you need to get some shut-eye.
We also offer free accommodation in student dorms (limited spots available) for people who do not live in Timișoara.
What about food?
Free meals will be provided during the event.
Can I receive travel reimbursement?
No, we cannot cover your travel costs. However, we suggest contacting your University and asking for support. We can provide a document from our University to confirm that you were at the competition.
How many members can a team have?
Teams are limited to a maximum number of 5 people.
How do I register my team?
For now, just register individually. You will be able to create or join a team before the event begins.
What kind of projects can I work on?
Any software or hardware project you want! Moreover, we encourage you to find and implement a solution for a civic problem.
Can I use code written before the hackathon?
Only projects with fresh code are eligible for winning any prize. You can build on existing frameworks, however only your contribution will be judged.
Do I need to make my code public?
Yes, you should push your code to a public repository. You will keep full ownership, but judges should be able to access your work.
What happens if I get stuck?
We’ll have mentors available to help you out. Go look for them whenever you need!
What prizes can I win?
You can win prizes offered by track sponsors, and also the Grand Prize. The exact prizes will be announced later on... or not.
How can I win the Grand Prize?
Our jury will give out points based on originality, complexity, completeness and UI/UX design. Bonus points will be awarded for projects with a civic focus. The best projects will be presented on the stage, and then everyone will vote for their favorites.
